Frequently Asked Questions

How long does modular housing take to build?

Modular homes can be delivered faster than traditional home builds. Where a traditional build may take 12 – 18 months to complete a simple modular build can be completed on site in three months.  For more complex jobs, we can combine modular off-site builds with on-site foundation and finishing works to deliver projects within six to 12 months.

What materials are used in the building?

In single story modular builds, we use our Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) across either timber or metal frames. We amend this based on material availability and structural requirements. Typically, framework decisions are determined by the most efficient costing and your  design requirements. The roofs are usually finished off with Colourbond and the external walls can either be finished with Weathertex or textured paint.

What are SIPs panels?

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) comprise layers of hard materials over an insulating core. At Moov Modular, we use either magnesium oxide (MgO) or oriented strand board (OSB) over expanded polystyrene (EPS). The panels are hard wearing and fire resistant. They can be cut and tailored to your design. We manufacture and store SIPs in our factory for use in the full modular builds.

Are modular homes kit homes?

A modular build is a full construction process with the potential to finish off services like plumbing and electricity on or off site. A kit home is more of a shell that needs to be put together, and trades hired, to complete the build.

Can I get finance for a modular home?

A number of Australian banks are able to finance modular construction, with the main issue being the off site build process. We are able to undertake more on site finishes and deliver completed modules in faster processes to make this easier for financiers as well.

What warranty do you offer?

Every Moov Modular home comes with a six year building warranty. We will also cover initial building maintenance in the first two to – three months after construction.

What NatHERS rating do you achieve

All our homes have a high standard of energy efficiency and will meet the minimum required 7 star rating from October 2023.

How much on site work is required to build the foundations?

Depending on the geotechnical report and nature of the site, we can look at multiple types of footings for the modules. We tend to use screw piers and will always consult with our structural and civil engineers to decide the most appropriate footing for your project.
